The Wines from Romania

Romania, which emerged from the merger of Wallachia and Moldova in 1862, is one of the largest wine producers in Eastern Europe but also one of the major wine exporters in the world. Viticulture here has a tradition of more than 6000 years. The winegrowing areas are almost 884,000 ha. large. The climate is continental, with the exception of the coastal regions along the Black Sea, which have a Mediterranean climate.

The Wine Growing Areas

Romanian wine growing areas

About 80% of the wine growing area is located in the regions of Moldova, Muntenia and Oltenia. Our wines come from Oltenia.

Romanian wines are made from well-known international grape varieties. For red wines, grapes such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir are used. In addition, wines are made from indigenous grape varieties such as Feteasca Neagra. Wine from Feteasca Neagra is also available in our webshop.

For white wines, Italian Riesling, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Muskat Ottonel and Feteasca Alba are often used. We also sell white wine from the typical Romanian grape, Tamaioasa Romaneasca. A particularly tasty wine.

After the fall of communism, foreign investors got involved in the wine production of Romania. As a result, the production of wine has been further professionalized. The collaboration of these investors with local winemakers has benefitted Romanian vine production as it has led to the rise of the quality.
